New Haven County resident Sharon Rutledge, of Milford, died on Friday, June 2, after collapsing at her home on Wednesday, May 31.
At the time of her death, Sharon was encircled by her family and friends, said her daughter Sara Agee Kaminski.
Besides owning a business -- Blue Point Designs -- featuring her artwork and more, Sharon was known throughout the community for her Facebook page "You know you live in Milford CT if....,” with almost 30,000 members.
She could also be found at almost all community events and throwing in a helping hand when needed. Sharon was the kind of person that makes a community click, and a person that made people smile.
After her death, friends and even strangers took to Facebook to mourn her passing.
"RIP beautiful Sharon Brosnahan Rutledge Thank you so much for this page, said one online poster. "You helped so many people reconnect. It’s truly amazing thank you."
Sharon is survived by her husband Michael, and her children Sara (Mark) Kaminski, Michael, and Andrew, and sister Doreen Brosnahan Mullin and John (Susan) Brosnahan.
Sharon, the artist, dedicated most of her weekend days to creating personalized oyster shells and home decor for her many customers and community friends. She was passionate about Blue Point, her family will find a way to continue to share her creations with the community, her daughter Sara said.
A memorial service was held at Gulf Beach in Milford on Tuesday, June 6 as hundreds of people showed up or showed their support online.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Circle Of Hope K9 Rescue New England a nonprofit, looking to place as many unwanted pups and dogs -- like Sharon’s Henry, Roz, and Sylvie -- into their forever homes. Donations made in Sharon’s honor can be sent via PayPal to circleofhopek9rescue@gmail.com.
